Shameful, isn't it? To be a person whose greatest achievement in life is a toilet. But the world doesn't revolve around us, so we have to wait in long queues for public toilets. This situation is turning into an epidemic. This is where 'Toilet - Ek Prem Katha' comes in, which talks about the unspoken happenings of public toilets- how they are used by people on all levels of society and how they can impact you even while you're just waiting for your turn. The film also shows some solutions to the problem through what India's government has done already and what more it can do in future to improve our toilets situation. The film chronicles the story of Jaya (Bhumi Pednekar), who belongs to a family that has not only considered toilets as their birthright but also made use of it. On the other hand, Madhav Jha (Akshay Kumar) belongs to a family which hasn't used a toilet in their lifetime. The film follows Madhav's mission to change his ways and, in turn, improve his society's understanding towards cleanliness and hygiene through use of toilets. Jayaji, Madhav's wife - played by Bhumi Pednekar - is independent and outspoken. She is one of the very few people in her community who has access to a toilet. She speaks on the need for women to use toilets, just like men do. As part of their initiative 'No Toilet, No Bride', the local government arranges for 100 days of wedding celebrations for Jayaji and Madhav - thus allowing people from across villages to attend their wedding and set a precedent. This way, they hope that Madhav will never have to think twice before building a toilet at home ever again. The film is directed by Shree Narayan Singh and produced by Akshay Kumar's Hari Om Entertainment & Jayantilal Gada (Pen). It is co-produced by Nikhil S. Dev & Abhishek N. Singh. Toilet Ek Prem Katha is slated to release on 11th August 2017.
